The largest degassing station in Ukraine has started operating at full capacity at the Dalnytskyi Quarries landfill!

The operation of the degassing station will prevent fires at the landfill and in the near future will significantly improve air quality in the region. And locals will be able to breathe with relief – the smells will almost disappear.

“One of the biggest environmental problems in Ukraine is frequent fires in landfills,” explains Andriy Grinenko, director of Clear Energy Group. – Engaged in methane generated at landfills. Sometimes even a ray of sunlight is enough to start a fire. The damage from them is very large – because during combustion an extremely large amount of toxic substances is released, which spread for many kilometers around. And it is very difficult to extinguish such fires – let’s remember the tragedy at the Hrybovytsia landfill near Lviv. And the landfill gas itself is very harmful to humans and has a strong odor. These problems can be avoided by constantly degassing landfills. This is the task of our company. ”
The station at Dalnytskyi Quarries is the most modern and powerful in Ukraine. The design capacity is 3 MW, three cogeneration units of the Austrian company Jenbacher are operating. The station allows to utilize up to 12 million cubic meters of landfill gas per year and to produce about 70 thousand kWh or more than 24 million kWh per year of “green energy” per day.
It was a difficult construction ¬– due to quarantine there were problems with the supply of spare parts from abroad. The state stopped paying the “green” tariff, owing the company huge sums, but construction was completed even earlier. And still the station was built quickly enough and has already reached the installed capacity.
Gas that is released during the decomposition of waste is pumped around the clock through wells located throughout the landfill and transported through pipes to gas filters, and then burned to produce electricity. The plant will pump up to 90% of landfill gas from the landfill body.
Next is the reclamation of the Dalnytskyi Quarries landfill and the construction of a waste processing plant. The third stage involves the construction of an energy recycling plant. Of course, by the best world standards.
This will help solve one of the most painful environmental problems for the Odessa region. However, today the problem of garbage disposal is acute in almost all settlements of the country – because only 6% of garbage is recycled or burned, everything else is sent to landfills, most of them are overcrowded.
